The Bee Watcher

A friend sent me this exerpt from a Dr. Seuss book. I didn’t realize Dr. Seuss wote leadership and management books!
The Bee Watcher by Dr. Seuss
Oh the jobs people work at!
Out west, near Hawtch-Hawtch,
there’s a Hawtch-Hawtcher Bee-Watcher,
His job is to watch…
Is to keep both his eyes on the lazy town bee.
A bee that is watched will work harder, you see.
Well…he watched and he watched.
But, in spite of his watch,
that bee didn’t work any harder. Not mawtch.
So then somebody said,
“Our old bee-watching man
just isn’t bee-watching as hard as he can.
He ought to be watched by another Hawtch-Hawtcher!
The thing that we need
is a Bee-Watcher-Watcher!”
WELL…………
The Bee-Watcher-Watcher watched the Bee-Watcher.
He didn’t watch well. So another Hawtch-Hawtcher
had to come in as a Watch-Watcher-Watcher!
And today all the Hawtchers who live in Hawtch-Hawtch
are watching on Watch-Watcher-Watching-Watch,
Watch-Watching the Watcher who’s watching that bee.
You’re not a Hawtch-Watcher. You’re lucky, you see!
…..how many hawtch-hawtcher’s does it take to watch the bee…who is the only one actually doing any work?????
You shouldn’t need more Hawtch-Hawtcher Bee-Watchers. If you have to have that many watchers then maybe you have a bee problem.
Who would have thunk it?
It’s simple you see.
Dr. Seuss on leadership.
Lessons from a bee.
The bee was lazy,
and people watched,
when they should have jumped in,
and cranked it up a notch.
To empower the bee,
to “be” his best,
and work as he should,
that’s really the test.
It should not matter,
as you can see,
who is watching,
you or me.
Work may be hard,
but you’ll never get bored,
if you do your work,
to serve the Lord.
(Wow. I am a poet and didn’t know it… haha)
Daniel!! You’re killing me!! I LOVE it!! I believe that the bee is empowered. Certainly not by the Hawtch Hawtcher but by his own ethic. If not, where would all that great honey come from??
I don’t get it.
